4 Facts you should Know on Perliculture

  1. Origin

The tradition of wearing freshwater pearls dates back to our ancestors. For some communities, pearls represented luck and prestige.

For others, they symbolised luxury and exuberance.

2. Perliculture, what is it?

It's a technique that values patience, dedication and the art of nature, creating pearls that are recognised for their beauty and rarity.

This mode of production allows the ability to create unique pearls in terms of shape, size and colour, resulting in a variety of jewelry options.

3. What about sustainability?

The pearls are handpicked, literally. It's the local people who take care of this process, trying to make the most of their natural resources. The savoir-faire of the locals is encouraged, in a work linked to manuality.

In order to cultivate pearls, it is essential to control and preserve the waters. The initiatives to clean up plastic waste at the end of the lagoons also allow for better control of the overpopulation of oysters, as it can have consequences for their habitat and the population that cares for them.

4. Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are created in smaller lakes or rivers.

The colour varies from one pearl to another and must be respected in two respects: the base colour and the shade. The colour should be observed at the edges, the tone in the centre of the pearl.
